Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go before the US immigration office for my last interview on my citizenship and naturalization process. I have been in the US for over 10 years now, and it is a true privilege to know that within sixty days, I will be able to say that I am proud to be an American.

Immigration sent me a booklet with one hundred questions and answers for me to study. One question stood out and made me think for a while about the meaning of it: “What are the rights in the Declaration of Independence?” As I stopped to reflect on the answer, Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness, I found myself wondering how these three elements are represented in my own life today.

I don’t know about you, but I feel very comfortable declaring that I have an amazing life, a very good sense of liberty, and a constant pursuit of happiness.

My pursuit of happiness in America can be summarized as two things: the freedom to worship God and the opportunity to build my family under Godly values.

The interesting thing about American values and principles is that, even if you are not a believer, you must recognize that in America you have the freedom to not believe in anything. But I personally doubt you will find joy and happiness in that.

I thank God for this opportunity. I thank God for my family. I thank God for my friends. I thank God that in Him I am FREE, and FREE indeed. – John 8:36

Joelson "Joey" Santos has a vision for developing leaders and seeing the Body of Christ reach its full potential. That vision is rooted in godly heritage and born of a deep desire to pass on what God has given him through his experiences and by prayer and study.
